Ronald Lee Syvrud, man accused for issuing death threat against Donald Trump

Authorities in Arizona are currently searching for a suspect who issued a death threat against former President Trump ahead of a scheduled rally in the state on Thursday.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as Ronald Lee Syvrud, 66. Syvrud has multiple outstanding warrants, including ones from Wisconsin for DUI and failure to appear, as well as charges from Graham County, Arizona, for a hit-and-run and felony failure to register as a sex offender. Additionally, the sheriff’s office has an absconder hold on Syvrud due to his failure to register as a sex offender.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office mentioned that Syvrud is being pursued “as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate.” The candidate was later confirmed as Trump.

This threat against Trump follows an assassination attempt on the Republican presidential nominee during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month.

The sheriff’s office stated that Syvrud has no known connections to Pennsylvania and that they are coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies in their investigation.

On Wednesday, Trump delivered a speech behind bulletproof glass in Asheboro, North Carolina, marking his first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt.

Trump’s visit to Cochise County, Arizona, on Thursday is part of his ongoing campaign efforts for the upcoming November election, with stops across various battleground states.

The U.S. Secret Service acknowledged the ongoing manhunt in Arizona and directed all further inquiries to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, including questions about any potential links to the incident in Butler, Pennsylvania.
