On November 4, 2016 NYPD Sergeant Paul Tuozzolo was killed in the Line of Duty. Paul was assigned to the 43rd Precinct.
On November 4, 2016, members of the 43rd Precinct received a description of a male who had just held his family hostage at gunpoint. Paul observed the male driving his car and conducted a car stop. As he and another officer exited their patrol car, the subject opened fire with a .45 caliber pistol. Paul was struck in the head and killed. Before being shot, Paul yelled “gun,” which the other officer credited with saving his life. Other officers who had arrived on the scene opened fire, killing the perp. The perp had a substantial criminal history and had been deported twice.
We at The Ops Desk went through the Police Academy with Paul, and I worked with him in the 26th Precinct. I just wanted to take today to honor his memory.
The link below is a video of Paul’s wife, Lisa, speaking about her husband and police work.
