Why wasn’t the officer able to de-escalate the situation in the 14 seconds that he interacted with this individual before he needed to use deadly physical force? If only a social worker was on scene to say the correct thing! #mentalillness #police #toughdecisions
Last year the homicide rate in El Salvador was half that of the USA. This year it’s down another 20%, year to date, to 1.9 per 100,000. This marks a 98%(!) reduction in murder since 2015. USA was 5.0 in 2024. (Our post-1956 low was 4.5 in 2015).
A North Side alderman recently told a community meeting that her ward has ShotSpotter and it doesn’t work.
In fact, her ward does not have ShotSpotter. The device that wasn’t working is a camera, not a ShotSpotter.
Another mostly peaceful protest.
Joking aside, it’s almost inevitable somebody will be killed if fighting like thing become a regular occurrence. And unless whatever led up to this is policed, that is what is going to happen.
